Integrated Sciences - Welcome to the future of scienceInstitute of Physics

Why choose Integrated Sciences?

Integrated Sciences is a new course that enables you to continue studying all three of the sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) to degree level.

The course has been carefully designed to provide you with the interdisciplinary knowledge and skills that employers are increasingly looking for from science graduates.

During the Integrated Sciences degree you will acquire and improve your communication, IT, problem-solving and investigative skills as well as becoming adept at critical thinking and evaluation.

Tell me about the course

Each degree has its own ‘flavour’ depending on the expertise in the partner university.  There are a host of options that can be tailored to suit your needs and interests.  So whether you want to learn about astrophysics or genetics, to quantum theory and forensic science, we have the degree for you.

But don’t just take our word for it….. Hear what some of our students have to say.

Integrated Sciences can also give you the option of taking a year abroad or in UK industry.

and are endorsed by the Institute of Physics to ensure academic quality and high standards.

The breadth and depth of the degree allows you to have greater choice and freedom while still maintaining the quality of a single-subject honours degree.

Where can I study Integrated Sciences?

The degree has been developed with four partner universities: Leicester, Surrey, London South Bank and East Anglia.

What A-levels do I need?

The entry grades for the course differ between all the partner universities, but the minimum is at least one science A-level (grade B or above) alongside your other A-levels and maths to GCSE level, so we’re sure to have a course to suit you.

Will I be able to specialise after graduating?

There is the opportunity to boost your three-year Integrated Sciences degree into a four-year masters (MPhys or MSci) programme as the breadth and depth of the course are an ideal foundation for continuing your study.

What are my career options with an Integrated Sciences degree?

All these skills are transferable and don’t just lead to scientific careers.  There are a huge range of career options after completing an Integrated Sciences degree, and these are just some of them:

  • finance
  • marketing, advertising and PR
  • regulatory affairs and drug registration
  • IT
  • recruitment
  • scientific or medical publishing
  • policy
  • public sector
  • teaching

Who is behind Integrated Sciences?

‘We are proud to endorse the new Integrated Sciences degree which brings an exciting and fresh approach to the teaching of the sciences in higher education. Integrated Sciences gives students both breadth and depth to their understanding of science, making them highly marketable graduates.’

‘The degree is academically rigorous and is formally recognised by IOP. It can lead students to a range of rewarding career paths after graduation and not just those within science and industry. The cross-disciplinary nature of the degree allows graduates to progress into a number of careers such as advertising and PR to scientific or medically-related research, the public sector and beyond.’

‘The level of physics knowledge Integrated Sciences graduates will attain can lead them to becoming specialist physics teachers, of which there is a shortage in the UK. Likewise the numerate nature of the degree can lead to a high-flying and lucrative career in finance and the City. Gaining skills in problem-solving, communications, management and I.T will make Integrated Science graduates very employable. We are very happy to recognise the Integrated Sciences degree and lend it our strongest support’

Professor Peter Main, Director of Education and Science, The Institute of Physics.
